Intern Spotlight: Bella Chandris

By

Today we are getting to know Peppercomm intern Bella Chandris!

IsabellaTell us about yourself—where did you/do you go to school, where are you from and what brought you to Peppercomm?

Hi Everyone! My name is Isabella (Bella) Chandris, and I grew up in London, England. I graduated from Tufts University in May 2016 and worked in the city before I landed at Peppercomm. The tech company I worked for was involved in a huge scandal, and that was the moment I realized I wanted to work in PR. I swiftly left the company, applied for the Peppercomm internship, and haven’t looked back.

When you’re not hard at work at Peppercomm, what do you like to do?

I’m definitely someone who lives to eat, not eats to live, so when I’m not working I’m out discovering different restaurants and food in the city. Since moving to New York, I’ve kept a list of my favorite places and as I’m a perfectionist, its arranged by cuisine and subsequently in alphabetical order (feel free to ask me for it anytime!)

What area of the industry do you find the most appealing and why?

After experiencing a scandal at my previous job, first-hand, I found crisis communications extremely interesting. It was fascinating to see how a company’s reputation could be destroyed in several minutes, and how a company chooses to respond in an attempt to mitigate the damage. Since working at Peppercomm, I have also discovered that I find media relations appealing; the aspect of pitching involves freedom to be creative, and you end up forming relationships with journalists, which you can then leverage for more coverage. It’s almost like a game, which I love!

Any surprises or revelations about your role, the industry or Peppercomm?

When I first received my accounts, I was slightly skeptical as most of them were financial. Since I had no previous experience in the finance industry, I wasn’t entirely convinced that I would like working on them. However, having worked on my accounts for several months now, I have found myself the most engaged and intrigued on the financial ones. They have mentally stimulated and challenged me, and I’m truly glad I was given the opportunity to work on them.

Where do you see yourself going in the industry?

Since social media has become such an influence in today’s world, I could definitely see myself working more in the crisis management side of industry, or maybe the financial side. I’m sure I’ll have a better idea once I finish the internship but for now, I’m just focused on absorbing as much information as possible.

Intern Lightning Round Questions:

  • Netflix or Hulu? Netflix hands down. Although, where would we be without The Handmaid’s Tale?
  • Text or Call? Either, both! If you know me, you know I am perfectly willing to ramble on through any form of communication.
  • Coffee or Tea? Coffee, 100%.
  • Dogs or Cats? Dogs without a doubt. I don’t trust cats because you can never tell what they’re thinking. The same goes for horses.
  • NYC or San Francisco? NYC because it’s the city that never sleeps. Also because I haven’t really ever been to San Francisco.
  • Star Wars or Star Trek? Star Wars. It’s much more realistic, which makes you think you the possibility of waking up as a Jedi tomorrow isn’t too improbable.
  • Crunchy or smooth peanut butter? Definitely crunchy.
  • Mac or PC? Do PCs still exist?
  • Sweetened or Unsweetened Tea? Sweetened if hot, unsweetened if cold.
  • Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network? Cartoon Network, Dexter’s Laboratory changed my childhood.
  • Chocolate or Vanilla? Vanilla, if we’re talking about cake.
  • Seltzer or Water? Water.
  • Cake or Pie? Cake all the way. Ice cream or Betty Crocker are the fastest ways to my heart.
  • Tacos or Pizza? Tacos for sure, I’m positive I was Mexican in a previous life.
  • Hogwarts House? From what I remember I was Ravenclaw.
